It’s time to celebrate the most memorable and important date in the Canadian cannabis space—the anniversary of the day cannabis was federally legalized for adult use. It’s Legalization Day!
It was on October 17, 2018 that cannabis was legalized for purchase and use, marking Canada as the first G7 country to legalize the plant. The Cannabis Act opened lanes for retailers—like Kiaro—to break trail on a global scale.
Kiaro has always been about cannabis advocacy, education and experience. For us, 10/17 is meaningful in a few different ways, including that it's a day to recognize the cannabis pioneers who worked tirelessly to champion and develop plants—both freely and in secret. October 17, 2018 is the day their dreams came true.
The date also marks the day cannabis moved from society’s subcultures to the mainstream. It’s an action that inspired our name: Kiaro means to emerge into the light. We’re here to light the way, to help cannabis emerge from darkness.
This October 17th, we’ll celebrate the past and present, but keep our eyes to the future. There’s still much to be done. And here at Kiaro, we’re just getting started.
