Everything you need to know before trying CBD

Let’s start 2021 off on the right foot, shall we? Whether you’ve started the new year off on a quest to better your physical health, your mental health, or simply to be the best 2021 version of yourself, Kiaro has you covered. On that note, let’s talk about CBD tinctures.

Cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD, is the second most prevalent cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant (the first is THC). Found in both marijuana and hemp, a higher percentage is found in hemp plants. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound, so users won’t experience the euphoric feeling that’s stereotypically associated with using cannabis. However, CBD is widely thought to offer several health benefits, although scientific evidence of its specific health effects are still being studied.

But that hasn’t stopped CBD from appearing everywhere. There are CBD facials to be had at spas, CBD gummies to be eaten, and CBD lotions to be rubbed into your feet after a long day. Our team at Kiaro has been fielding questions about CBD from everyone from your arthritic uncle, to your anxious colleague, to your skincare-obsessed sister.

While CBD can be purchased in a variety of formats, tinctures are among the most popular. Essentially, CBD tinctures are an oil form of CBD extract that contains very low levels of THC. Often, tinctures are mixed with an oil—like hemp, coconut or extra virgin olive. Tinctures are usually ingested sublingually, by placing the oil beneath the tongue, where it remains for about 30 seconds before being completely ingested. This 30 seconds gives the CBD time to be quickly absorbed into the body. By swallowing the tincture afterwards, it provides a slower, but more consistent and holistic ingestion of the solution into your system.

Potency may be the ultimate predictor of duration, but tinctures are thought to last longer in the body than inhalants and are more readily absorbed than topicals or other ingestants.

Although CBD doesn’t get you high, like THC, it is thought to affect your body. It interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), a complex system that plays a role in the function of sleep, memory, appetite, chronic pain, stress, skin and nerve function—the list goes on and on. There hasn’t been enough research completed to determine how CBD affects the ECS, but studies suggest that CBD may help with pain, nausea, stress and anxiety.

Wellness trends come and go each year, and more and more we’re seeing CBD named as a breakout ingredient touted by the likes of lifestyle gurus like Martha Stewart and Gwyneth Paltrow
